While you can't actually hunt in The Woodlands of Texas, never fear, there are plenty of hunting and fishing opportunities around the area. However it is important to note that elevated levels of mercury are affecting these two species of fish that are common in many of the lakes of Eastern Texas, most prominently at Ratcliff, Bouton, Boykin Springs, and Double lakes. For adults, you should limit eating these kinds of fish from these lakes to no more than two meals and no more than eight ounces every month, for children this amount is half. Luckily, this has effected only these two species.

All of the Sam Houston National Forest has been designated as a wildlife management area so there are some things that you need to know. One is that you have to pay an extra fee to hunt in these areas, but these extra fees are used to pay for enhancement programs in the forest, such as law enforcement, creating openings for other wildlife, and even wild turkey restoration.
